William E. Frenzel papers, 1962-2010.

Congressional papers and office files (1970-1992) of a third district Republican congressman from Minnesota (1971-1991) who later (1990- ) served as a guest scholar at the Brookings Institution. The material focuses largely on Frenzel's work on the House Ways and Means Committee Subcommittee on Trade and the House Administration Committee, and his efforts at Brookings to secure passage of the North American Free Trade Agreement (1993). Brookings Institution files (1990-2000) include information about Frenzel's efforts to secure passage of the North American Free Trade Agreement (1993). There is a small amount of material from Frenzel's years in the Minnesota House of Representatives (1963-1969). Congressional Papers include chronlogical office files, legislative bills and subject files, trade mission files, campaign and political files, personal papers, voting records, Congressional Record statements, press releases, newspaper clippings, speeches, and audio-visual materials. There is correspondence with constituents, other legislators, and interest groups. Legislative bill files contain background material, and copies of bills. Many files concern foreign trade, tariffs, taxation, the federal budget, and election law. Many trade-related subject files are those of Patricia Eveland, Frenzel's administrative assistant. Brookings Institution files document Frenzel's activities at the Institution and his involvement with a variety of organizations, including the Eurasia Foundation and the Transatlantic Policy Network. They also contain information about the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade and the North American Free Trade Agreement.
